TULSA, Okla. - The No. 48 Rice Owls were defeated by the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Friday night at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, 4-0.
To lead off doubles action, the duo of Saara Orav and Francesca Maguina made quick work of their opponents at the third line, earning a 6-0 victory over the two. However, Tulsa took a similar victory at the second line, defeating Divna Ratkovic and Nithesa Selvaraj 6-1. In the battle of top-50 tandems, Darya Schwartzman and Fernanda Martinez pushed Lilly Hutchings and Maria Berlanga to the brink, but the Tulsa duo would hold on to defeat the Rice duo 7-6 (5) to take the doubles point.
In singles action, the 99th-ranked player, Berlanga, took down Schwartzman at the first line by a score of 6-1, 6-1, to take Tulsa's second point of the day. Allison Zipoli was defeated at the third line, 6-3, 6-3 and Orav fell at the sixth line, 6-4, 6-3, earning Tulsa's third and fourth points of the match for the win.
Rice turns its attention to Sunday's early morning match at Kansas State. First serve from Manhattan, Kansas, is scheduled for 10 a.m.
