HOUSTON - The 48th-ranked Rice Owls will leave the confines of the George R. Brown Tennis Center for the first time since the season opener at Sam Houston for two matches, taking on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Friday evening before turning its attention to the Kansas State Wildcats on Sunday morning.
Rice and Tulsa rekindle a rivalry that raged in the C-USA days, with the two playing annually from 2003-2016, save for 2008. Rice currently has a five-match winning streak against the Golden Hurricane, but trails the overall series by four matches at 13-9.
Sunday's match at Kansas State, meanwhile, will be the first time since 2019 the two teams meet, and only the third time ever. Rice has taken down the Wildcats both times the two have met, with the first meeting in 1997 ending in a 5-4 win for the Owls.
Tulsa is currently 8-3, but those three losses have come in the previous five matches against top-ranked competition, including against #12 Oklahoma, Purdue, and Ole Miss.
Kansas State is 2-3 this season, falling in its previous three matches to Wichita State, Kentucky, and #5 Auburn. The Wildcats will face the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday before taking on the Owls on Sunday.
On Thursday, the Rice Owls debuted in the ITA's first 75-team computer rankings of the season, earning a ranking of No. 48. Additionally, the tandem of Darya Schwartzman and Fernanda Martinez jumped from being the 85th-ranked duo in the nation to the 33rd-ranked tandem, coming off the heels of a major upset against Pepperdine's Savannah Broadus and Vivian Yang, who were the then-7th ranked tandem.
Fans will be able to watch the match against Tulsa via the ESPN+ link above. Additionally, fans can keep up with live scoring from the Kansas State match above. Tulsa will not have live stats and Kansas State will not have live video.
