Women's Tennis Falls to TCU on Saturday, 4-2

HOUSTON - Rice women's tennis suffered its first set back of the season, falling 4-2 to the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday afternoon at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. The loss drops Rice to 4-1 while TCU improves to 2-1 on the year.

Action began in doubles, where Rice fell for the first time this season. The duo of Darya Schwartzman and Fernanda Martinez fell 6-2 at the No. 1 position before Divna Ratkovic and Nithesa Selvaraj fell 6-4 at the No. 2 position to see TCU take an early 1-0 lead. Francesca Maguina and Saara Orav were tied with the opponents 4-4 before the third court was abandoned.

In singles, TCU took a 2-0 lead when You-Chin Tsai took down Allison Zipoli 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 position, then moved to 3-0 with a Raquel Caballero victory over Ratkovic at the No. 2 position, 6-2, 6-0. Rice earned its first point of the day with a. Schwartzman victory at the No. 1 position, 6-3, 6-2. Rice cut the lead to one with a Orav victory at court six, 6-4, 6-2. Ultimately, TCU would take the match with a three-set victory by Tomi Main over Maguina at the No. 4 position, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

Rice will return to action on Wednesday, February 5, to take on Houston from the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
