
Rice Heads to Charlotte for American Championships

CHARLOTTE – The Rice men's and women's cross country teams are off to Charlotte for the American Conference Championships Saturday morning, with the men's 8k race starting at 8:15 a.m., and the women's 6k race following at 9 a.m.

The women's team is coming off a tremendous race at Texas A&M, finishing sixth as a team out of 38 schools. Alex Gobran has had a stellar season, claiming the event title at the Rice Invitational and most recently was 23rd at Texas A&M.
Rice's squad has shown consistency throughout the top five spots, with Daphne Mayer and Oliwia Kopeć also coming off great showings in Aggieland. The two, along with Gobran, where all named All-Conference a season ago, with Kopeć finishing third.
Veterans Heidi Nielson, Miranda Schriver, Amelie Attenborough and Molly Humes have all added top finishes throughout the season.
The men's team has challenged themselves all season long, taking on some of the top programs in the nation at the Cowboy Jamboree (Oklahoma State) and Arturo Barrios (Texas A&M), finishing in the top half of teams at both races.
Gus Gannon has led the Owls all season long and was an All-Region honoree at the NCAA South Central Regional last season, while also winning the Rice Invitational this year.
Jackson Moran and Ben Tijerina have held strong as the next two top runners for the Owls this season, while Andrew Murray and Brandon Martz have consistently been around the top five finishers for the Owls.
