
Women's Tennis Returns Home to Face Lamar on Thursday

HOUSTON - The Rice women's tennis team hosts the Lamar Cardinals in the Owls' home opener of the 2025 spring season. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Last week, Rice opened the season with a dominant 7-0 victory over the Sam Houston Bearkats in Huntsville. After winning the doubles point, redshirt junior Allison Zipoli earned Rice's second point of the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 4 position, representing her first in-match action since April of 2023 during the C-USA Tournament. Nithesa Selvaraj earned the clinching point at the No. 3 position with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
This match serves as the first of eight-straight home matches for the Owls. After this match, Rice will remain home to take on Incarnate Word on Sunday, Jan. 26, followed by Arizona, TCU, and Houston to round out the next two weeks of action.
Rice will compete at the George R. Brown Tennis Center for the first time since October of 2024, where the Owls hosted the inaugural AAC Individual Championships. In that event, sophomore Divna Ratkovic won the women's singles championship, earning the right to represent the American Athletic Conference in the ITA Masters in Rome, Georgia.
This match serves as the season-opener for Lamar, as well as the first time since 2023 that the Owls and Cardinals have met on the courts. It will be the seventh-consectutive match up in the series between the two that takes place at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
