HOUSTON – Rice soccer head coach Brian Lee has announced the additions of Leah Chancey (Ovilla, Texas/SMU), Faith Hutchins (South Kingstown, R.I./Rhode Island), Kat Lazor (Missouri City/HCU) and Taylor Rish (Alpharetta, Ga./Georgia) as transfers for the upcoming 2024 season.
"We have had great success with past grad transfers and are excited about the instant impact all four can have this fall," Lee said. "Leah joined us last spring and has already established herself as a central attacking piece and team leader, Faith is a future pro GK with a very high ceiling, Taylor has scored big goals in big games for Georgia and Kat's analytics would grade her out among our top players."
Chancey joins the Owls after spending the previous four seasons at SMU. She started in 16 of the Mustangs' 18 matches last season as a midfielder. Chancey netted the game-winning goal in SMU's 2-1 win at Baylor and scored another goal against the Owls. She finished the 2023 campaign with six points on two goals and two assists. Chancey was a 2022 AAC All-Academic.
Hutchins arrives at Rice from Rhode Island, where she spent four seasons as a goalkeeper. During her career, Hutchins started in 55 of her 57 matches played, posting a 1.23 goals against average with 224 saves with .770 save percentage. She recorded 16 shutouts, with seven coming during her senior season. During the 2023 season, she posted a career-best 1.06 goals against average with 83 saves.
Lazor heads to South Main after four seasons across town at Houston Christian. After playing in 60 matches during her career, while earning 44 starts, she amassed three goals and three assists as a defender. During the 2023 season, Lazor scored the game-winning goal against Northwestern State and was named All-Southland Conference First Team. She also earned all-conference second team honors during her junior season.
Rish joins Rice after four seasons with Georgia as a defender/forward. Throughout her career with the Bulldogs she scored four goals, three coming during her junior season. Last season, she netted the game-winning goal against Iowa in the NCAA Tournament Second Round, advancing Georgia to its second NCAA Sweet 16 in program history. Rish was also part of Georgia's defensive effort to clinch the team's first-ever SEC Championship last season with a 1-0 win over No. 10 Arkansas.
The Owls will open the 2024 campaign on Aug. 15 against Texas State at Holloway Field.
