Women's Tennis Claims 4-2 Victory Over No. 58 FAU

BOCA RATON, Florida — Rice women's tennis recorded its second straight win over an ITA-ranked opponent, defeating FAU, 4-2, on Monday at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center. The Owls are now 6-1 on the season against AAC opponents.
Doubles: The Owls of FAU made the first move of the match, claiming the doubles point with wins at the first and second positions. At the third position, freshmen Divna Ratkovic and Anushka Ashar had battled to a 5-6 scoreline at the time the point was clinched.
Singles: Rice responded quickly in singles play. At the top spot in the lineup, senior Federica Trevisan tied the match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Ratkovic then put the Owls ahead with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the third position. After FAU again tied the match, graduate senior Chie Kezuka recaptured the lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the fourth spot. Junior Saara Orav then clinched the victory at the fifth position. After dropping a second-set tiebreaker, Orav rebounded in the final frame to post a 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-1 victory. Freshman Nithesa Selvaraj also led in the decisive set at the sixth position, holding a 5-4 lead when the match was suspended.
The win was Rice's first road victory over Florida Atlantic and preserves Rice's unbeaten streak against FAU, as Rice now holds a 5-0 record in the all-time series.

Up Next: Rice returns to the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Saturday, April 13, at 2 p.m. (CT) to celebrate senior day against Prairie View A&M. Rice will celebrate the careers of Trevisan and Kezuka as part of the match.
