
Women's Tennis to Celebrate Senior Day Versus Prairie View A&M

The Owls will hold a ceremony to celebrate the careers of Federica Trevisan and Chie Kezuka prior to the match. In four years on South Main, Trevisan has been twice named to the All C-USA Singles First Team and was named to the All-Freshman team in 2021. Trevisan has tallied 116 total wins as an Owl, holding respective singles and doubles records of 59-33 and 57-35. She was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and received the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal in each of the past three years.
Kezuka joined the Owls this season after four years at Iowa State, where she won a pair of Big 12 Individual Championships in No. 5 Singles and No. 3 Doubles, and was named to the All-Big 12 Doubles Team in 2022. Kezuka has tallied 150 total wins across her five-year career, including 14-8 and 18-9 singles and doubles marks this season as an Owl. She was thrice named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, an eight-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and a four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete.
The Owls: Rice is 10-9 this season and holds a 6-1 record against AAC competition. Last week, the Owls went 2-1 against a trio of ITA-ranked opponents in Florida. After a 4-0 loss at No. 29 FIU, the Owls bounced back with a pair of wins over AAC foes. Rice swept No. 51 South Florida in a neutral match in Miami. The Owls earned the doubles point with a pair of 6-4 victories at the first and second positions. In singles play, a trio of straight-set victories from senior Federica Trevisan, junior Saara Orav and freshman Nithesa Selvaraj at the first, fifth and sixth positions, respectively, clinched the win for Rice. Freshman Divna Ratkovic was also a single game away from the win at the third position, while sophomore Darya Schwartzman was entering a decisive third set at the No. 2s when the match was abandoned. Rice capped the weekend with a 4-2 at #58 FAU on Monday. After falling behind 1-0 following doubles play, the Owls took the lead via straight-set wins by Trevisan and Ratkovic at the first and third positions, respectively. After FAU tied the match at 2-2, Kezuka recaptured the lead with a win at the fourth spot before Orav clinched the win with a three-set victory at the fifth position. Selvaraj also led, 5-4, in the third set of her match at the No. 6s when the winning point was clinched.
The Opposition: Rice is 4-0 all-time against Prairie View A&M with all four matches taking place in Houston. The two sides met in the regular season finale last season on April 16, resulting in a 4-0 Owl victory. The Panthers are 5-20 this season with a 5-4 record in SWAC play. PVAMU fell in their lone two previous matches versus AAC competition, falling in a pair of matches to UTSA, 5-2 and 4-0.
