Owls Have Strong Weekend in California

CALIFORNIA – The Rice men's track and field team shined throughout the weekend at the Beach Invitational and Bryan Clay Invitational, with several top finishes and personal bests in two highly competitive meets.
At the Beach Invitational, Ese Amata finished second in the high jump with a season-best clearance of 2.14m. Shaun Kerry had another top-10 finish in the hammer throw, finishing eighth with a throw of 64.30m.
Over at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Gus Gannon became the third Rice athlete in program history to finish the 5000m with a sub-14-minute time, finishing the race in sixth with a time of 13:58.68. The mark is the fifth-best in the AAC this season.
Andrew Murray and Elliot Metcalf had great finishes in a highly competitive 1500m race, finishing 21st and 33rd, respectively.
