Prairie View closes homestand at 6:30 on Tuesday
Reckling Park: Stanford worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the eighth to close out sweep of the three-game series with Rice, 4-3 at Reckling Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Details: The Cardinal jumped out front in the first inning for the third consecutive game on a double and a ground out, but Rice answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the second, courtesy of a two-run double by Treyton Rank. The Cardinal moved back in front with a two-run homer in the fifth and Rice answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI single by Nathan Becker. Tom Vincent and Davion Hickson shut out Stanford on one hit over the final four innings to keep the Owls within striking distance. They put runners at second and third with two outs in the bottom of the eighth and on the 10th pitch of his at-bat, Max Johnson lofted a deep fly to left that drifted foul at the last moment. Johnson worked a walk on the next pitch, but Ben Dukes was retired a fly to left to end the threat.
Up Next: Rice will close out the current five-game homestand by hosting Prairie View (6-5) on Tuesday night at 6:30.
