Stanford series opens on Friday
The Details: The first meeting between the two schools at Reckling Park since the 2002 Super Regional drew the largest crowd to see a game at Reckling in nearly eight years (4,610) and the defending national champion Tigers took a 3-0 lead in the second and extended it to 9-0 after three innings. Rice pushed across three runs in the third, taking advantage of a pair of LSU errors, as Nathan Becker drove in two. The Tigers answered with two in the fifth and five in the seventh. Becker, Manny Garza and Kyte McDonald each had two hits for the Owls.
Up Next: Rice hosts 2023 College World Series participant Stanford at Reckling Park over the weekend. The action opens at 6:30 on Friday, followed by a 4:30 game on Saturday, and wraps up with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday.
Notes
- The crowd of 4,610 was the largest crowd at Reckling since 5,478 saw Rice defeat #3 Texas A&M 4-3 on April 5, 2016.

- Kyte McDonald extended his hitting streak to four games by going 2x5. He is 6x16 (.375) over that stretch with four runs scored.
- A total of five Owls made their collegiate debuts in the game (Eric Correa, Jake Melvin, Tobias Motley, Matthew Rheaume and Landon West).
- Righthander Reed Gallant made his first appearance in a game since 5/15/22, working a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout.
