
Zhu Leads Golf to Second-Place Tie at Border Olympics

Laredo, Texas — Freshman Reggie Zhu finished the best tournament of his young career, firing a six-under par 66 to lead the Rice Golf team to a tie for second-place at the Border Olympics.
The Owls carded a -5, 283 to finish the tournament at -16, the second lowest score to par in school history.
Zhu finished in third-place at -10. After four straight pars to begin the day, he birdied three of the next four holes. After dropping a shot on the 14th, he rattled off four birdies in the final six holes to give him his fifth round of par or better this year.
The 66 tied the lowest round and lowest round to par by a freshman in school history, and his -10 for the tournament set a freshman record, becoming just the third player in school history to finish a tournament at -10 or better.
Freshman Braeden Hoyt posted a 76 to finish -1 in a tie for 26th-place, his first career tournament under par. Graduate Jay Kirchdorfer fired a 71, his team-leading eighth round of par or better, to tie for 31st-place at even par.
Sophomore Lukas Boandl tied for 35th-place at +1 after carding a 74, and junior Raghav Chugh shot an even par 72, his sixth round of par or better this year, to finish in a 39th-place tie at +2.
Illinois State won the team tournament at -32. ISU's Valentin Peugnet earned medalist honors at -17, five strokes in front of teammate Alex McCulla.
