PREVIEW: Women's Tennis Prepares for ITA Texas Women's Regional Championship

HOUSTON - Members of the Rice Owls women's tennis are slated to begin competition in the ITA Women's Texas Regional Championship, hosted in Fort Worth, from October 10 - 14.
In the qualifying main draw, Anushka Ashar will begin competition against Ireland Simme from Texas State at 9:30 a.m. At the same time, Valentina Ponce will take on Juliette Jalai from Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, and Nithesa Selvaraj will battle Clara Sobius from Tarleton State.
On Friday, the main draw will begin, starting with Fernanda Martinez taking on Na Dong from Baylor at a yet to be scheduled time. At 1 p.m., Saara Orav will take on Arina Oreshchenkova from Texas Tech. Divna Ratkovic and Darya Schwartzman will also take part in the main draw, but their opponents are to be determined.
In doubles, Schwartzman and Martinez have earned a bye from the first round, and will take on the winner of Lilly Schultz/Stanislava Shluzhenko from North Texas vs. Ireland Simme/Emily Neirs from Texas State at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Orav and Selvaraj will take on Adela Latalova and Ioana Dumitrescu from UT Arlington on Friday at 8 a.m., and Ashar and Ratkovic will take on Daniela Garcia and Andrea Pascual from Prairie View A&M on Friday at 8:45 a.m.
