Kopec Named AAC XC Women's Athlete of the Week

IRVING – After another tremendous showing this past weekend, freshman Oliwia Kopeć was named the American Athletic Conference Cross Country Women's Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
"Oliwia is an amazing addition to our program this year," said head coach Jim Bevan. "She has hit the ground running and has continued to impress on the course. I am really proud and happy with her performance through these first two races, and I can't wait to see how she continues to grow."
Kopeć continues her incredible debut season, finishing 15th out of 249 runners at the Chile Pepper Festival in Arkansas. She paced the Owls with a time of 16:59.8 in her first 5k race.
The Owls finished fifth as a team, with all point scorers finishing in the top-32 of the race. Rice was only behind Texas, LSU, No. 12 Arkansas and No. 5 (DII) CSU Pueblo in the team score.
Rice climbed to No. 6 in the latest USTFCCCA South Central Region polls, rising one spot from last week's rankings.
The Owls will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the DBU Old Glory Gallop.
