HOUSTON — Coming off his third top-10 finish of the year, sophomore Raghav Chugh was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week presented by Blenders Eyewear.
It is his third Golfer of the Week honor this year and the fourth of his career. He becomes just the second Owl to win the award three times in a season, joining Michael Whitehead in 2010-11 and the second with four in a career.
In addition, Rice's five Golfer of the Week honors match the most in school history, done previously in 2010-11.
Chugh tied for seventh-place at the Walden Invitational, finishing -3 as he led Rice to a fourth-place finish. He began the tournament by carding a 73. However, he followed that by firing a 68, his seventh round in the 60's this year and the 13th of his career. He becomes the third golfer since 1991 with at least seven rounds in the 60's in a season. The 68 also helped propel the Owls to a second round score of -12, the second-best round to par since 1991.
The New Dehli, India native closed the tournament with a 72 to tie the team lead with 12 rounds of par or better. Chugh's seventh-place finish is his third top-10 finish of the year and the ninth of his career.
