Owls Close Homestand by Hosting Islanders

Combined match with the Rice men's team
Houston: The Rice women's tennis team close out a five-match homestand on Tuesday when they join with the Rice men's team to host Texas A&M Corpus Christi in a combined dual at the George R. Brown Tennis Center at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The combined match was originally scheduled February 22 but was rescheduled due to weather concerns. The women's match will take place on the front six courts at GRBTC.

The Owls: Rice is 5-5 so far this season, 4-2 at GRBTC and 2-0 in Conference USA.
Texas A&M Corpus Christi: The Islanders are 11-0 after defeating Abilene Christian 4-1 in San Antonio on Monday. The Owls and Islanders have each faced Sam Houston this season, with both winning by 7-0 scores.
The Series: Rice has won all 15 of the previous meetings between the schools including a 7-0 win at GRBTC last year. The last four meetings have been on the Rice campus, three at GRBTC and one at Jake Hess. The last meeting in Corpus Christi came in 2012 when the Owls won 7-0 in the inaugural match at the Islanders' Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
Doubling Up: Today's combined match is the second of four this season that are combined women's tennis dual. On March 26 the men will face William & Mary while the women host Brown at 11 a.m. and the slate of combined matches end on April 8 when the men host UTSA while the women take on SMU.

George R. Brown Tennis Center: Rice has posted a 69-17 regular-season record at GRBTC (13-0 in C-USA play) since making their debut at their new home by defeati Lamar 7-0 on 1/17/15. The Owls have also posted a 6-0 postseason mark while winning a pair of Conference USA titles at home (2015 & 2019).
Up Next: The Owls will be on the road this weekend with a pair of C-USA matches in Charlotte, North Carolina. They will face North Texas on Saturday and #30 Charlotte on Sunday . They return home the following weekend to open a four-match homestand featuring #49 Brown, #59 South Florida, #36 FIU and #69 SMU.
