Forbes Selected C-USA Female Athlete of the Week

Won seventh career cross country race
DALLAS – Rice junior All-American Grace Forbes was named the Conference USA Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week on Monday, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Forbes helped lead the Owls to a team victory at the season-opening Rice Invitational last Friday by winning the overall individual title with a time of 13:38 in the 4000m race, nearly 30 seconds faster than the next closest competitor. Forbes was the lone runner to break a 3:30/k pace out of the 81 runners.
The victory was the seventh of Forbes' illustrious cross country career and the C-USA Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week award is the fifth of her career.
As a team the Owls scored 30 points, comfortably defeating both second place Tulane (62 points) and third place Houston (73 points).
The Rice women are ranked second in the most recent USTFCCCA South Central Region Poll and were receiving votes in the USTFCCCA Preseason National Coaches' Poll. The Owls are back in action this Friday when they partake in the Texas A&M Invitational beginning at 8:45 a.m.
