HOUSTON — Rice golf sophomore Raghav Chugh will represent India in the 33rd annual World Amateur Team Championship, Aug. 31-Sept. 3, at Le Golf National and Golf de Saint-Nom-La- Brèteche in Paris, France.
82 countries will vie for the Eisenhower Trophy. Each team has two or three players and plays 18-holes of stroke play for four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team's score for the championship.
The winning team in the men's competition receives custody of the Eisenhower Trophy for the ensuing two years. Members of the winning teams receive gold medals, members of the second-place teams receive silver medals and members of the third-place teams receive bronze medals.
Chugh is coming off a freshman campaign that saw him earn Conference USA Freshman of the Year honors. He led the Owls with a 72.52 stroke average, the sixth-best since 1991 and the lowest by a freshman in that time. He also recorded a team-best 15 rounds of par or better, becoming the ninth golfer with at least 15 rounds of par or better in a season since 1991.
The New Delhi, India native was Rice's top finisher in 10 of 12 events, including the last eight. He recorded three top five, six top 10, and seven top 20 finishes.
Rice will begin the 2022-23 season at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate in Choudrant, La., Sept. 11-13.
