Owls hit the road for final four games of 2022
The Details: After taking a 3-0 lead after two innings, the Blue Raiders compiled 11 runs on nine hits and a walk. They added four in the fourth and three in the sixth. Rice got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of two-out runs. Guy Garibay doubled home Connor Walsh and then scored on a wild pitch. Rice added a solo run in the fifth, with Garibay singling and then scoring on an error. The Owls plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Austin Bulman walked and moved to third on a double by Nathan Becker before coming home on a wild pitch. Pierce Gallo followed Becker with a walk and both scored on Manny Garza's second home run of the year that curled inside the right-field foul pole
Notable
- The win allowed MTSU to sweep the series for the first time. Each school has swept the series once since it began in 2014, with the Owls taking all three at Reckling in 2014.
- The 21 runs were the most scored against the Owls since Houston defeated Rice 24-6 at Constellation Field on May 17, 2016.
- Manny Garza drove in a career-high three runs and was 2x4. He was 5x11 on the weekend and has hit in eight of his last 11 starts (12x37) with seven multi-hit games.
- Garibay was also 2x4 for his team-leading 16th multi-hit game.
- Nathan Becker was 2x8 with a walk in two games this weekend. He has reached base in 37 of 40 starts this season.
