11/19/2022 6:01:00 PM | Football
Regular season ends next Saturday at North Texas
Details: UTSA opened the scoring on a 63-yard run by quarterback Frank Harris and then turned a pair of Owls miscues into a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Rice quarterback Wiley Green, who was making his first start and return to action after suffering an injury in the season-opener at USC, was injured on the second series of the game and did not return to action. Freshmen Shawqi Itraish and AJ Padgett came on in relief of Green, but the Roadrunner defense held the Owls in check until Padgett found Bradley Rozner for a 43-yard touchdown in the third quarter. The touchdown pass was the first of Padgett's career. Josh Pearcy led the Owls' defense with six tackles, including one tackle for loss while cornerback Tre'shon Devones was credited with five tackles in his first start since 2020. The loss dropped Rice to 5-6 overall and 3-4 in conference play on the season while league-leading UTSA improved to 9-2/7-0.
