• This is the 13th meeting between the two schools, with North Texas leading 7-5, and the 10th and final as members of C-USA (UNT leads 6-3).
• The series began with a non-conference meeting in 1988 when the Mean Green, who were headed to the 1-AA playoffs, stormed to a 33-3 lead, and won 33-17.
• This is the fifth meeting between the two at Apogee Stadium (UNT 3-1) and the sixth between the schools in Denton (UNT 3-2).
• Rice's first win at Apogee game on 9/19/15 as Driphus Jackson set career highs from completions (29) and yardage (373) as the Owls stormed back from a 10-7 deficit in the second quarter to present head coach David Bailiff with his 50th career win at Rice.
• The Owls won the only meeting at Fouts Field on 9/11/10 33-32 thanks to four field goals from Chris Boswell.
• Rice's first win over the Mean Green came in 2008 as the Owls scored their most points in a game in the modern era, winning 77-20. Chase Clement and Jarett Dillard etched their names into the NCAA record book, becoming the most productive duo in NCAA history by connecting on three touchdown passes to raise their career total to 41. Senior offensive lineman Shea Baker will play in his 54th consecutive game on Saturday and make his 53rd career start on the offensive line. 11/11/06- Rice 41,@ Tulsa 38- Dillard catches a 25-yard TD from Chase Clement after Rice forced a Tulsa field goal to open the second overtime and give the Owls an improbable win over the defending conference champions. Rice was held to just 209 yards but created four turnovers to win its fourth in a row and continue its march to its first bowl game in 45 years.
11/25/06-Rice 31, SMU 27- Dillard catches a 25-yard TD pass from Armstrong with 4:05 left (his 14th consecutive game with a TD) to put Rice ahead to stay as Rice clinches its first bowl berth since 1961.
10/3/07- Rice 31,@ Southern Miss 29- Playing on Wednesday in front of a national audience on ESPN, Rice starts fast and then holds off a late charge to give David Bailiff his first win at Rice. James Casey is called upon to play multiple positions and shares a sack and is credited with a special teams tackle in addition to rushing for a TD and catching two passes.
11/3/07-Rice 56, UTEP 48- Chase Clement throws for six TD and rushes for two more as Rice outscores UTEP 28-0 in the last 11 minutes to pull out the win.
