2024
Caught 12 passes for 94 yards in the first four games before an injury at Army ended his season… Had at least one reception in each game and ended the year with a streak of 17 consecutive games… Opened the season with five receptions for 43 yards vs. Sam Houston and added four the next week vs. Texas Southern… Had a pair of receptions for 31 yards at Army, including a season-best 21-yard catch.
2023
Ranked second among AAC tight ends with 39 receptions, third with 383 yards, and fifth with three touchdowns… 39 receptions rank sixth on the Rice single-season list for tight ends … Reception total was the most by a Rice tight end since Vance McDonald had 44 in 2011… James Casey holds the school and NCAA records for season receptions by a tight end with 111 in 2008… Groen’s 383 yards are the most by a Rice tight end since McDonald had 458 in 2012… Set career highs with six receptions, 67 yards, and two touchdowns in the season finale vs. Florida Atlantic… Caught at least one pass in all 13 games in 2023 and has caught at least one in 14 consecutive games.

Caught nine passes for 79 yards while playing in 12 of 13 games, including starts vs. Charlotte, UTSA, and North Texas… Played 316 snaps on offense, with 109 of them coming in the final two games of the season… Made his collegiate debut with seven snaps at USC in the opener and recorded his first career catch (2 yards) at Houston two weeks later… Caught passes in four straight games (Charlotte, UTEP, WKU & UTSA) and then closed with a career-high three on a career-best 63 snaps vs. Southern Miss in the Lending Tree Bowl after Jack Bradley was injured… Third reception of 14 yards from A.J. Padgett in the fourth quarter was the longest of the season.

Caught 14 passes for 152 yards in nine games with Saddleback last season as the Bobcats finished 4-6…Top reception effort was three vs. Riverside and future Owls’ teammate Dean Connors… His longest reception of the year was a 40-yard effort vs. Ventura… Did not see action in 2020 as Saddleback’s season was canceled due to the pandemic.
