Owls Close Out West Coast Swing at Pacific
Rice wraps a two-game road trip on Wednesday night when the Owls visit Pacific at 5 p.m. on Friday. After defeating St. Mary's 77-64 to open the trip, the Owls will be looking to sweep both games of a non-conference road trip since they took a pair of games in Arizona in 2017 (69-59 at Grand Canyon on Nov. 10 and 88-83 at Northern Arizona on Nov. 12).
Go West
The two-game trip marks the Owls' first games in California since they lost to #23 UCLA 59-55 at Pauley Pavillion on 11/11/18. The win over St. Mary's was the Owls' first win in the Golden State since an 81-55 win at Cal-State Northridge on 11/16/07.
Last Time Out: Rice 77, St. Mary's 64
Rice used a balanced offensive attack and a suffocating effort on the boards to down St. Mary's 77-64 at UCU Pavillion on Wednesday night. Ashlee Austin led the way for the Owls with 13 points, while fellow starters Katelyn Crosthwait had 11 and Destiny Jackson 10 while Shelby Hayes (12) and Jazzy Owens-Barnett (10) led a 29-point night for the Owls' bench. Jackson grabbed eight rebounds, one of five Owls to collect at least five as Rice out-rebounded the host Gaels 46-24. Five of Jackson's rebounds came on the offensive end of the court as Rice held a 19-4 advantage in offensive rebounds and a 21-0 edge in second-chance points.
Rice vs. Pacific
This is the second consecutive meeting between the schools, as Rice defeated Pacific 81-73 at Tudor Fieldhouse on 11/24/21. Ashlee Austin scored 17 points, one of five Owls to score in double figures and Malia Fisher recorded her second double-double in the first five games of her collegiate career, scoring 14 points and collecting 17 rebounds.
Owls on the Road
After opening last season dropping four of five away from Tudor Fieldhouse, the Owls won three of their last five to finish the season 4-6 and have now won four of their last six on the road.
Up Next
Rice stays on the road for the next two without chalking up any additional air miles. The Owls travel to Texas Southern next Wednesday for a 2 p.m. kickoff to the Thanksgiving weekend and then play at Texas A&M on November 27. They return home for the month of December for six games (TCU, Houston Sam Houston, Middle Tennessee, WKU and UTEP).
