4-0 Owls face TSU ono Wednesday.
Stockton, CA –Faced with two starters on the bench having fouled out and a 14-point third quarter lead all but erased by Pacific, Lindsay Edmonds' Rice Owls proved up to the task, hitting 12-of-14 free throws in the final minute of the game to pull away from the Tigers 89-79 and complete a sweep of their two-game western road swing on Friday night.
Despite playing with four fouls of her own in the final quarter, Destiny Jackson scored eight of her 14 points in the final 1:20 on a layup and six free throws while Malia Fisher was 4-for-4 from the line in the final moments of the game and finished with her second double-double of the season, scoring 16 points to go with 12 rebounds.
Ashlee Austin's season-high 18 points led the way for the Owls, who swept both games of a non-conference road trip since winning back-to-back games in Arizona in 2017. Katelyn Crosthwait added 13 and freshmen Jazzy Owens-Barnett and Shelby Hayes each chipped in 10.
Postgame Reaction - Head Coach Lindsay Edmonds
" I'm proud of this group for going on this road trip and being able to come away 2-0. I thought some things didn't always go our way early on or late in the game and we could have really hung our heads, but we found a way to stick together and battle together and fight back and found a way to pull it out at the end and again. It was a really balanced attack from our group and I think that makes us really hard to guard, and hard to defend. It's been a long week, and going home 2-0 is pretty sweet.
