HOUSTON – The Rice Men's Cross Country team will travel to College Station early Friday for the NCAA South Central Regional meet, hosted by Texas A&M at the Watts Cross Country Course.
The Owls are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Conference USA Championship on October 29, with Sophomore Elliot Metcalf and Junior Travis Dowd earning all-conference honors.
Friday's race has been moved up to 9:30 due to expected bad weather. This will be the fifth time the Owls are in action this season and they currently sit 14th in the South Central Region in the most recent USTFCCCA poll.
Coach Jon Warren shared his excitement for the meet: "The NCAA South Central Regional Championships is a highlight that I think this team and many others look forward to every year. I am hoping our team lives up to the moment and puts out the performance I know that can."
The top two teams at the regional will earn automatic berths at the 2022 NCAA D1 Cross Country Championships will be held in Stillwater, Oklahoma on November 19 along with 13 additional teams who will qualify as at-large entries. In addition, the top four individual finishers who are not from an automatic or at-larger team qualifier, also earn a trip to the national championship.
