Johnson and Garibay homer in win
In Brief: Max Johnson and Guy Garibay Jr. homered to spark Rice to an 18-13 win over Houston Christian at Husky Field on Sunday in the second of the Owls' two fall exhibition games. Sunday's 11-inning game had originally been scheduled for Reckling Park, but was moved to HCU while the final stages of the new playing surface installation are completed at the Owls' home field.
The Details: Johnson was 2x6 with a pair of walks, three RBI and scored four times to lead the Owls' attack. Connor Walsh collected a pair of doubles and two RBI and scored three runs. Garibay drove in four runs on the afternoon and also drew a pair of walks. Manny Garza and Jacob Devenny each added two hits and drove in a pair and Devenny added three runs scored. A total of nine pitchers saw action on Sunday, led by Garret Zaskoda who worked 2.2 scoreless innings, striking out a pair while allowing just one hit. Matthew Linskey fanned four, walked two and gave up one hit in his two-inning assignment and Mauricio Rodriguez added two hitless innings, allowing just two walks and striking out a pair.
