Wosika finishes in top ten
DENTON, TX. - The Rice Owls women's cross country team finished third at the Conference USA Championships, scoring 79 points with three runners earning all-conference honors.
Senior Caitlin Wosika led the Owls, finishing 10th with a 6k time of 21:42. Junior Taigen Hunter-Galvan (11th, 21:46) and senior Alyssa Balandran (13th 21:51) joined Wosika in earning second-team all-conference accolades. Rounding out the scoring for Rice is Senior Lina Spjut (22:33) and Freshman Ame Attenborough (22:47), both placing in the top-25 with 24th and 25th finishes.
The all-conference performance was the third straight for Hunter-Galvan, while Wosika earns her second in a row.
"I was extremely proud and happy with our performances today," expressed Coach Jim Bevan. "We have been less than 100% healthy recently and have had to make training modifications. The team responded with, on a personal basis, the best performances of the year or their careers. You cannot ask for any more than you can give, and they all gave the most of themselves and we finished as high as possible. I am immensely proud of this team"
After a hard-fought championships race, Rice will now prepare for the NCAA South Central Regional, which will be hosted by Texas A&M on Nov.11.
