Hunter-Galvan repeats as all-region
COLLEGE STATION, Texas –Led by Taigen Hunter-Galvan the Rice women's cross country team finished ninth at the 2022 NCAA South Central Regional in College Station on Friday.
Hunter-Galvan finished 19th to earn her second-consecutive All-Region designation, improving on her 21st place finish last year. Competing without a pair of standouts in Grace Forbes and Caitlin Wosika, Owls' head coach Jim Bevan was proud of the effort of his team.
"I'm proud of the way we competed today. It has been a tough year with the entire team being 100 percent healthy, but I was so proud of how this group has stayed together and has competed so strongly. There was a lot of determination and grit displayed in how we finished and raced. We were seeded 8th going into the race, but that was with Caitlin Wosika, so I would have to say we competed exceptionally well."
Hunter-Galvan covered the 6K course in 21:04.02, followed by senior Alyssa Balandran (38th, 21:26.3) and senior Lina Spjut (45th, 21:44.4).
Freshman Amelie Attenborough (77th - 22:25.7) and sophomore Ellie Schweiker (80th - 22:27.8) rounded out the Owls' point producers on Saturday.
