RESULTS
COLLEGE STATION, TX – The Rice Owl's women's cross country team competed in their fourth meet of the season, finishing 14 out of 37 competing schools at the Arturo Barrios Invitational 6k race on Saturday at the Watts Cross Country Course.
Junior Taigen Hunter-Galvan had a strong race, finishing the race 20th out of 326 runners with a personal best 6k time of 21:05.4.
Senior Lina Spjut finished 2nd for the Owls at 77th overall with a time of 22:09.2. Sophomore Ellie Schweiker (128th-22:48.0), Katlyn Schmeltzer (134th-23:13.0), and Junior Haley Allen (156th-23:17.2) rounded out the top five finishers for Rice in the morning.
Coach Jim Bevan was pleased with the performance by Hunter-Galvan, complimenting that she "is becoming a better and better cross country runner." For the team's performance, Coach Bevan was happy in the way his runners stepped up: "We were not at 100 percent roster as a team today, but that was a blessing in disguise as it helped put others in a position to step up and I am happy with the way they competed... Now we have two weeks to be our best at the conference, and I am optimistic we can be."
The Owls will compete for one final Conference USA championship on October 29 in Denton. Race time is set for 9 a.m.
