Owls compete in five events at second indoor meet of season
HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's track & field team competed in their second indoor meet of the season Saturday at Yeoman Fieldhouse, partaking in the FasTrak Collegiate Challenge.
Although the Owls competed in just six events they made the most of their presence with three victories, including sophomore thrower Elian Ahmar in the shot put with a mark of 17.29m on his sixth and final attempt. The Glen Burnie, Md. native recorded the second-best throw in C-USA this young season.
Junior All-American Nicks Hicks won his third career weight throw event with a season-opening mark of 19.40m, tops in C-USA.
Freshman decathlete Grant Levesque established the No. 1 vault in C-USA this season by clearing 5.25m to place second overall, a mark that also ranks 17th in the NCAA while sophomore Ese Amata also won his second event of the season, taking the high jump with a clearance of 2.08m.
