Cross Country Makes Season Debut Friday

Owls host 45th annual Rice Invitational from Intramural Fields
HOUSTON - Rice cross country launches the start of their 2021 Fall season this Friday, Sept. 10 when they host the 45th annual Rice Invitational at the Rice Intramural Fields. The women's 4000m race begins at 6:15 p.m., followed by the men's 6000m race at approximately 6:45 p.m.
Admission for Friday's 24-team meet is free, as is parking located in West Lot 4.
The Rice men's team is ranked fourth in the USTFCCCA South Central Region Preseason Poll and were picked to place third in the Conference USA Coaches' Poll. Head coach Jon Warren enters his 20th season at the helm and will oversee a Rice team that placed third at last season's C-USA Championships. The Owls return a roster led by a trio of all-conference performers from last season. Senior Hociel Landa earned his first career appearance at the NCAA Championships this past spring after earning First Team All-Conference honors in the fall with his fourth place finish. In addition, the Owls return Third-Team All-Conference awardees in junior Andrew Abikhaled and sophomore Ace Castillo. The Owls also welcome back senior Alex Topini, who has twice earned C-USA all-conference accolades.
