Owls Open C-USA Play on Friday

Earn first round bye
The Rice women's tennis team has earned one of two first-round byes and will open play in the 2021 Conference USA Championship at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton, Texas. The Owls will take on the winner of the Thursday match between Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee.
Rice (14-5) earned the second seed in the championship, the ninth consecutive year they have been one of the top two seeded teams. The Owl have won six of the last seven conference crowns, including the most recent championship in 2019 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
The 2020 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Old Dominion (9-4), who lost to Rice in the 2019 championship final, earned the top seed and will also open play on Friday at 10 a.m., taking on the winner of the UAB-UTSA first round match.
