HOUSTON – The No. 42 Rice women's tennis team will face No. 20 TCU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Play begins Saturday, May 2, at the LSU Tennis Complex, with second-round action scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.
Rice previously faced TCU this season, falling 4-0 on Feb. 1 in Fort Worth. The Owls' last win against the Horned Frogs came Feb. 6, 2019, a 6-0 victory at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
The Owls earned their NCAA Tournament berth after capturing the American Conference championship last weekend, marking their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
Three American Conference teams will compete in the NCAA Tournament, with Wichita State and Charlotte earning at-large bids.
"I am excited for our team to be able to compete in the NCAA Tournament," head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. "We earned it the hard way, going through North Texas, Charlotte and Wichita State in our conference tournament. We felt all season that we have a team that can make the tournament and do some damage. Now it's time to go to work and do that."
