Owls Pick Up Six Victories at Rice Invitational

HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's track and field team posted six individual victories to highlight their outdoor home opener at the Rice Invitational on Tuesday.
Samuel Woodley continued his stellar start to the outdoor season by winning the discus throw with a mark of 54.61m, which currently ranks No. 3 in the NCAA, and then also placed second (15.38m) behind teammate Chris Rivera (15.65m) in the shot put. Freshman Shaun Kerry won the hammer throw with a distance of 57.28m while James McNaney climbed to No. 2 in the NCAAs in the javelin with a winning throw of 67.88m, a new PR.
Alex Topini took top honors in the 800m (1:53.70) while Travis Dowd won the 5000m with a time of 15:12.42.
Tuesday's field also consisted of Houston, Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern UTRGV. Next on the schedule for the Owls is the University of Houston's Spring Break Invitational, which will be held Thursday, Mar. 18.
