Lafayette, La. — Freshman Rodrigo Martin is in a four-way tie for the lead at seven-under par heading into the final round of the 36th annual Louisiana Classics.
Martin is tied with Sam Houston State's William Holcomb and Luis Carrera and Illinois' Jerry Ji.
Martin began the day with a six-under 66, including his first career eagle at the par-5 third hole. It is the second-lowest score by a freshman since 1991. He followed that up with a one-under 71 to set a new school freshman 36-hole score record of 137. The two rounds of par or better give him three on the year.
Rice is in fifth-place at two-over par, one stroke behind No. 38 North Texas. No. 5 Illinois leads the tournament at 21-under par, 13 strokes in front of Louisiana-Lafayette.
Junior Harrison Hineline fired a pair of 71's to sit in 11th-place at two-under par. He now has three rounds of par or better and 11 in his career. His 36-hole score of 142 was also a career-low.
Senior Jake Benson is tied for 32nd-place at three-over par. He began the day with a 78 but bounced back by firing a 69. It is his second round of par or better this year and 38th of his career. It is also his 10th career round in the 60's, becoming the fifth golfer since 1991 with at least 10.
Senior Rishi Kejriwal is tied for 64th-place at eight-over par after posting rounds of 78-74. Sophomore Thomas Bockholt III carded rounds of 80-76 to sit in a 71st-place tie and junior Campbell Gibson is in 80th-place after rounds of 85-78.
