WXC Preview | Owls Head to Charlotte for C-USA Championships

Women's 6k race begins at 9 a.m. (CT)
HOUSTON - The Rice women's cross country team will look to capture a conference title this Saturday when they race at the Conference USA Championship, hosted by Charlotte at Frank Liske Park in North Carolina.
The Owls last competed back on Oct. 16 when they finished fifth out of 32 teams at the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invitational. Saturday's race, which will begin at 9 a.m. (CT), will be the Owls fifth of the season and a prelude to the NCAA South Central Regional which will be hosted by Baylor in Waco, Texas on Nov. 12.
Rice placed fourth at last year's C-USA Championships and have finished in the top three of the standings in 12 of the last 16 seasons, including four team titles (2005, 2007, 2015, 2016).
The Owls currently rank No. 5 in the most recent USTFCCCA South Central Regional rankings. Other C-USA teams ranked in the top 15 in their respective regions includes Middle Tennessee (No. 9-South Region), Charlotte (No. 12-Southeast Region), and Southern Miss (No. 15-South Region).
Rice is led by sophomore All-American Grace Forbes, who will be looking to repeat as the individual champion after setting the second-fastest 6k time (19:58.6) last year in Hoover, Alabama.
