
Golf Announces 2021 Spring Schedule

HOUSTON — Rice golf coach Justin Emil announced the release of the Owls 2021 schedule Wednesday afternoon. The Owls will compete in nine tournaments, including seven in the state of Texas.
"We are very grateful to have the opportunity to play this spring despite the pandemic," said head coach Justin Emil. "The team is really excited to get into some competition after having to sit out the end of our spring and the fall of 2020. We have a deep squad this year with a lot of talent and high competitive character. I'm eager to see these guys compete.
Rice will begin the spring campaign on Jan. 25 hosting the Rice Intercollegiate at Westwood Golf Club. The tournament will be a one-day, 36-hole tournament.
After a three-week break, Rice will be begin a run of tournaments in five straight weeks, beginning Feb. 14-16 at the All-American Intercollegiate. Rice co-hosts the event with Houston, which will be played in Humble, Texas at the Golf Club of Houston. This will be the sixth straight year that the Owls will participate in the event and the 43rd time overall.
The squad then travels to Laredo, Texas for the Border Olympics, played Feb. 22-23 and hosted by Houston. It's the second straight year it will participate in the event.
The following week, Rice will participate in one of the country's most prestigious events, the Cabo Collegiate (Mar. 1-3). Due to COVID-19, the tournament has moved from its regular course in Cabo, Mexico to San Antonio at TPC San Antonio.
Four days later, the Owls travel to Dallas for the Trinity Forest Invitational (Mar. 7-9), hosted by SMU. It is the third straight year that Rice will participate in the tournament.
Rice will end its five week stretch by leaving Texas for the first time when it travels to Lafayette, La., for the Louisiana Classics, played Mar. 15-16 and hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette. Rice will be playing in the event for the fourth straight year.
Three weeks later, Rice will host its final tournament when it teams with Houston and Sam Houston State to co-host the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club in Houston, Apr. 5-6. It is the ninth straight season that they will co-host the event.
Rice will then close the regular season when it goes up the road to College Station to play in the Aggie Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M on Apr. 9-11.
The Conference USA Championship will take place in Texarkana, Ark., for the sixth consecutive year and the 10th time overall, Apr. 26-29.
NCAA Regionals take place May 10-12 at campus sites, with Arizona State hosting the NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 28-June 2.
The Owls return its entire team from last year while adding freshman Rodrigo Martin from Guadalajara, Spain.
