Huang Earns C-USA October Honor

Women's Tennis Athlete of the Month

Rice senior Linda Huang has been named the Conference USA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Month for October, the league announced Wednesday.

During the Owls abbreviated fall season, Huang posted a pair of wins over opponents who were nationally ranked at the time the 2020 spring season was cancelled. She raced to a 6-2, 7-5 win over Taylor Bridges of LSU, who was ranked 36^th in singles last March, and combined with Michaela Haet for a 7-5 win over LSU's Nina Geissler and Eden Richardson, who ended the spring season ranked 26^th.

Huang finished the fall season with a 3-3 record in singles and a 5-1 mark in doubles.

This is the first conference honor for Huang and the first fall monthly honor for the Owls since Wendy Zhang was recognized in September of 2017.

The Owls are scheduled to begin the 2021 dual season on January 18 with a road match at Baylor and open the home season on January 24 by hosting Louisiana-Lafayette.
