In Brief: The Rice men's tennis team (1-0) heads on the road for the first time this year to meet a pair of Ivy League schools who qualified for the 2019 NCAA Championship. The Owls will open the weekend by facing Dartmouth (3-0) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and wrap up the trip by facing Harvard (4-0) at 12:30 on Super Bowl Sunday.

Dartmouth: The Big Green is coming off a weekend sweep of a pair of SEC teams. They edged both Alabama and LSU by 4-3 scores last weekend in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They opened the season with a 6-1 win over Navy. Dartmouth and Rice are meeting for the fourth consecutive year with the Big Green having won the last two after Rice won the inaugural meeting 4-1 at GRBTC in 2017. Dartmouth went unbeaten at GRBTC in three matches to capture the Ralph O'Conner Rice Invitational last year and went onto qualify for the NCAA championship for the third time in the last four years. The Big Green ended the 2019 season ranked 40th in the final Oracle/ITA rankings.

Harvard: This is the first meeting between Rice and Harvard in tennis. The Rice women have met Harvard once, dropping a 5-2 decision in 2006. The Crimson completed a 4-0 January by sweeping BYU (4-3) and Minnesota (6-1) in the Crimson Kickoff after posting wins over Purdue (7-0) and Army (7-0) away from home to open the season. The Crimson are coming off a second consecutive trip to the NCAA championship and ended last season ranked one spot behind Dartmouth in the final rankings (No.41).
For Openers: Rice opened with a 6-1 win over Incarnate Word on January 25, sweeping all the doubles matches and winning five of six in singles. 2019 C-USA Player of the Year Sumit Sarkar ran his career record at the first singles line to 20-8 with a three-set win. Sarkar has a career mark of 6-5 when facing ranked opponents, including a win over Christian Sigsgaard of Texas who was ranked fourth at the time.
