Indoor Season Set to Begin for Owls

HOUSTON - Rice track and field will open the indoor season this Friday, Jan. 17 at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston. Meet action is set to begin at 10 a.m. with the women's high jump.
The Rice women enter the season ranked 42nd in the Women's Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index and return senior All-American jumper Michelle Fokam as well as three-time C-USA champion sprinter Hannah Jackson, each of whom are scheduled to compete on Friday.
The men placed fifth at last year's C-USA Championships and return seven point scorers from last season, including the reigning C-USA Indoor pole vault champion Natan Rivera.
Following this week's meet, the squad returns to Yeoman Fieldhouse Jan. 31-Feb. 1 for the Houston Invitational. Rice competes at the Charlie Thomas Invitational Feb. 7-8, hosted by Texas A&M, before making one more appearance at UH for the Howie Ryan Invitational on Feb. 14. This year's C-USA Championships will be held once again in Birmingham, Ala. from Feb. 22-23. The indoor season concludes with the NCAA Indoor Championships March 13-14 in Albuquerque, NM.
