Stolsig wins javelin with PR
HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's track and field team spent week four of outdoor competition split this weekend between the Houston Alumni Invitational (UH) and the Carl Knight Invitational (SFA). Redshirt junior thrower Dane Stolsig was the Owls top performer on Saturday, establishing a new PR of 61.87m (203-00) to win the javelin at the Houston Alumni Invitational. Stolsig's throw ranks fourth in Conference USA.
Freshman vaulter Thomas Pratt set a season-best clearance if 4.70m (15-05.00) in the pole vault, finishing second overall and first among collegiate competitors. Also setting a season-best mark in throws was junior Michael Yow, who placed fourth overall with a heave of 59.22m (194-03) in the hammer throw. Redshirt junior Adolfo Carvalho grabbed second place honors in the 1500m with a time of 4:00.58, also a new PR.
Running unattached, junior Matthew Murray ran the top time (1:52.16) in the 800m, which would have ranked fifth in C-USA.
On Friday, freshman decathlete Corbett Fong earned 6317 points to place second overall in the decathlon in Nacogdoches at the Carl Knight Invitational. Fong now ranks third in C-USA with the 6317 points.
The Owls will be back in action next weekend (April 12-13) when they compete at the Texas A&M Invitational and Multis from College Station.
