Charlotte Sweeps Twinbill To Claim Weekend Series
Records: Rice is now 15-23 on the season and 6-9 in C-USA. Charlotte improved to 14-20-1 overall and 5-9-1 in league play.
Dodging Mother Nature: Due to weather conditions in the area the start time of Saturday's (first) game was changed twice on the fly, including as the Owls were about to leave the hotel for the field. The game that was originally scheduled for Sunday was not officially moved to Saturday (to become a double-header) until after Saturday's first game was completed. As per C-USA rules both teams made completing the league series the priority.
Triple Double: Rice has now played a doubleheader in each of its last three C-USA weekends. The Owls swept the first twinbill at Old Dominion three weeks ago but have dropped both of the last two to FIU and Charlotte.
Hitting Streaks: A number of Owls saw their hitting streaks come to end Saturday. The two longest active hitting streaks on the team are now held by Dominic Cox and Cade Edwards at four games each. Junior Braden Comeaux has reached base in each of the last 14 games.
On The Bump: Evan Kravetz started game one on the mound and was sensational allowing just one earned run on five hits in 7.0 innings while striking out eight. The senior left-hander earned a no-decision as Charlotte rallied for the one-run win in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jackson Parthasarathy started the second game and posted a career-high 11 strikeouts in 5.1 innings. For the full three-game series nine Rice pitchers struck out 26 Charlotte batters in 25.2 innings and the staff combined to maintain 3.7-to-1 strikeouts-to-walk ratio.
On Deck: Rice concluded its week long road swing. The Owls are back home at Reckling Park for each of the next seven games lasting thru May 1. Rice next hosts red hot C-USA foe Middle Tennessee on April 18 to start a three-game league series. First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
Join Us Monday For The Matt Bragga Show!: Fans are invited to attend the Matt Bragga Show on Monday (April 15) at Christian's Tailgate restaurant located on Kirby. Owls Head Coach Matt Bragga and show co-host Nate Griffin (in a pinch-hitting role for J.P. Heath) will welcome assistant coach and former Owl Connor Teykl as a guest, along current Owl Antonio Cruz.
