As a four-year letterman from 2013 to 2016, Teykl helped lead the Rice baseball program to three Conference USA regular season championships and two league tournament titles. By his sophomore year he had become a fixture in the Rice lineup, starting 148 of 150 games at as many as three different spots in the infield. The Sugar Land, Texas, native maintained a combined .288 batting average for his junior and senior seasons. In 2016 he finished second on the Owls in RBI and third in doubles, and was named to the C-USA All-Tournament team as the Blue & Gray reached Sunday’s championship final. In all of the years of the Rice baseball program, Teykl has the distinction of tying the school record for official at bats in a single game (9).
At Rice Connor had the chance to play two seasons with his older brother, Trevor (an Owl pitcher in 2014-15). Both were members of Baker College.
After Rice Connor went on to play professionally in the American Association and in the Frontier League. The former multi-sport standout at Kempner High School began coaching varsity baseball at Houston Christian High School and he was able to earn his Rice degree in the fall of 2017. Teykl coached the hitters and outfielders at Galveston Junior College during the 2018 season. He was on the coaching staff at UTSA during the Roadrunner’s fall training program prior to returning to Rice.
Connor and his wife, Kelli, were married in February of 2018. They reside in Sugar Land.
