Golf Has Best Round of Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate

Cabo, Mexico — Rice golf had its best round of the Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate, closing with a 12-over par 296. The tournament was played at the par-71, 6,928-yard Los Cabos Querencia.
The Owls tied for 11th place with No. 19 Texas A&M at 43-over par.
Junior Nicholas Duggan tied for 24th place at three-over par after closing with a 74. Sophomore Jake Benson fired an even par 71 to finish seven-over par in 35th place. It was his 10th round of par or better this year and the 18th of his career.
Senior Grant Rogers had his best round of the year, carding a season-best 72 to tie for 51st place at 13-over par. Freshman Campbell Gibson, playing as an individual, tied for 55th place at 15-over par after posting a final round 79.
Freshman Austin Escamilla shot a 79 to finish 26-over par in 67th place and senior Mason Weld carded an 84 to finish in 68th place at 27-over par.
No. 1 Oklahoma State won the tournament title at 32-under par, eight strokes in front of No. 9 Arizona State. OSU's Austin Eckroat earned medalist honors at 14-under par, two strokes in front of teammate Matthew Wolff

"The conditions were the most difficult today. The guys held it together to play our best round of the tournament. We came away with a lot of positives, but we still had some mistakes that cost us a better finish. But, it was a good experience for the team."

The Owls will take two weeks off before traveling to Lake Charles, La., for the Lake Charles Invitational on Mar. 18-19.
