Three-Game Weekend Series Concludes Sunday At 1 PM
The No. 25 ranked Anteaters clubbed two home runs and scored in three different innings to defeat the Owls for the second time in as many games. It was enough offensive support for UCI starter Tanner Brubaker and relievers Ryan Johnston and John Vergara, who combined to hold Rice to no runs and a total of four hits.
Junior third baseman Braden Comeaux collected two of the Owls' four hits, including a one-out double down the field line in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Blue & Gray also threatened with runners on first and second in the bottom of the second, as well as getting men on base in three other innings. The Anteaters were able to avoid trouble each time and finished the day with two double plays.
Senior left-hander Evan Kravetz started on the mound and recorded six strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work. A total of five Owl pitchers saw action in the contest.
Rice is now 2-5 on the season. UCI improved to 4-2. The three-game series at Reckling Park concludes on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
