Rhode Island Slips Past Rice Friday, 2-1 In 10 Innings

Game Two Of Weekend Series Set For 4 PM Saturday
The Rice pitching duo of Matt Canterino and Kendal Jefferies combined for 15 strikeouts and only one walk, but Rhode Island rallied to tie the game, 1-1, in the top of the ninth before pushing across an unearned run for the 2-1 lead in the tenth.
The Owl offense finished the night with six hits. Junior newcomer Cade Edwards went 2-for-4 in his first Division I game since 2016. Sophomore standout Trei Cruz put the Blue & Gray on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third with a RBI single that scored junior newcomer Aaron Beaulaurier in his first Division I action. True freshman Antonio Cruz stroked a pinch hit single in his first collegiate at bat.

The three-game weekend series vs. Rhode Island continues through Sunday (Feb. 17) at Reckling Park. Saturday's start time is set for 4 pm. Sunday's series finale is slated for 11:30 am.
