Owls Face Cowgirls Wednesday in Lake Charles
The Rice Owls women's basketball team will be looking to get back in the win column this Wednesday when they travel to Lake Charles, La. to face the McNeese St. Cowgirls. Rice defeated McNeese 93-65 last season at Tudor Fieldhouse on Nov. 11, 2018. The Owls are in search of their first road win of the season while the Cowgirls have lost three straight games overall.
About McNeese
The Cowgirls enter the game averaging 71.8 ppg. and are shooting 37.9 percent from the field while making 5.2 three-pointers per game. McNeese is coming off a 97-70 road loss at UAB on Sunday. Senior Callie Maddox is the only Cowgirl averaging in double figures with 13.2 ppg. and has scored in double figures the last four games.
Last Time Out
Undefeated Big 12 foe Oklahoma State (5-0) claimed a 69-38 home win over the visiting Owls last Saturday afternoon in Stillwater, Okla. Erica Ogwumike led Rice with 14 points, seven rebounds and a pair of assists in 32 minutes of playing time. Lauren Schwartz finished with nine points, one assist and one steal. She was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Taking Advantage at the Line
The Owls are currently ranked third in the nation in free throw percentage (82.2 percent). The trio of Erica Ogwumike (16-18), Lauren Schwartz (18-22), and Nancy Mulkey (9-10) have combined to shoot 43-of-50 at the stripe.
A Look Ahead
The Owls return to action following Thanksgiving on Saturday when they host Northern Arizona (1-1) at 2 p.m.
