Rutledge headed to Tulsa for All-American
The Rice men's tennis team will have its first taste of competition on familiar ground when they host competitors from 11 other schools this weekend for the Texas Tamale Invitational at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Play opens on Friday morning with the first round of doubles at 9 a.m. followed by the opening round of singles. Players from Army West Point; Denver; University of Louisiana; Nichols State; Prairie View A&M; Rice; Texas; Texas A&M Corpus Christi; Texas Tech; Tulane, UIW and UTSA will be in action along with most of the Owls' lineup. Play continues on Saturday before wrapping up on Sunday morning.
Junior Eric Rutledge, who opened the fall tournament schedule ranked 98th in the Oracle/ITA National Singles rankings, will be competing in the qualifying round of the 2018 Saint Francis Health System/ITA Men's All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which begin on October 1.
There is no admission charge for Texas Tamale Invitational.
