Mario Carmona and Mitchell Meissner to tee off at Pebble Beach

HOUSTON, Texas —A pair of former Rice golfers will begin play at the prestigious 118th U.S. Amateur on Monday when Mario Carmona and Mitchell Meissner tee off at Pebble Beach Golf Club in Pebble Beach, Calif.
Meissner, will tee off at 10:43 a.m. CT from Hole 10 on Pebble Beach. Carmona, will tee off at 3:16 p.m. CT from Hole 10 on Pebble Beach. The duo are making their second appearances at the U.S. Amateur, having competed in 2016.
For Tuesday's second round, Carmona will tee off at 10:01 a.m. CT from Hole 1 on Spyglass Hill. Meissner will tee off at 3:58 CT from Hole 1 on Spyglass Hill.
All 312 golfers in the field will play two rounds of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday. The top 64 after those two rounds will then advance to match play, which begins on Wednesday. Match play will continue until next Sunday when a champion will be crowned.
That champion will be exempt to play in all majors next season except the PGA Championship, while the runner-up will be exempt to play in the U.S. Open and the Masters.
Meissner will be paired with Christopher Tuulik, a former player at Cal State-San Marcos and Travis Vick, a Texas signee. Carmona will be paired with Alex Jamieson, a sophomore at Notre Dame and Devon Bling, a sophomore at UCLA.
FS1 and Fox will have coverage of the event, starting on Wednesday, August 17, when match play begins and running through Sunday, August 21, when a champion is crowned.
