Trio Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar

HOUSTON, Texas — Golfers Mario Carmona, Mitchell Meissner and Grant Rogers were named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, announced Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or univer¬sity.
A total of 265 players in Division I, 126 in Division II and 23 in NAIA. Additionally, 62 honorees were added to the previously released Division III Srixon/Cleveland All-America Scholars.
Carmona was named an All-American Scholar for the second straight year. He was second on the squad last year in stroke average with 72.25 strokes per round. He had two top five and five top ten finishes, including a win at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Challenge while recording 19 rounds of par or better. The Houston native closed his career earning an at-large berth to the NCAA Bryan Regional.
Meissner was also named an All-American Scholar for the second straight year. He led the team with a 71.65 strokes per round while recording three top five and six top 10 finishes. The San Antonio native earned back-to-back victories at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate and the Conference USA Championship, becoming just the second C-USA Champion from Rice. Meissner was also named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team and closed his career tying for eighth-place at the NCAA Bryan Regional.
Rogers averaged 75.75 strokes per round in his junior season season. He earned his second career top 20 finish at the Steelwood Collegiate Classics.
Rice's three members tied with UTEP for the most in Conference USA.
